I am incredibly offended by your writing on Justin Jackson. I am all for constructive criticism of his game, but not the way his body is built. I'm sure my opinion does not matter on this, but I felt the need to voice it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I would hope it is not an opinion that involves slamming another person, whom, I have no doubt, you do not even know.

Re: Episode 22: Return of the Mac (and the Mason)

ah, right - thanks for the catch Patrick. now fixed. got it in the headline, just not in the body. too many plumlees!

Re: Episode 22: Return of the Mac (and the Mason)

mason plumlee, not miles (who graduated)

Re: Broken Brackets Update

Hey now! I may only be in the 25th percentile with my entry but I did avoid the ACC homerism and I, for one, did have Cincy beating the Noles. I'd demand a recount, but I'm pretty sure it would still look pretty ugly from my end...

Re: Episode 16: The Hate Before the Storm

Collins, Laettner, Jones, G Henderson, and Reddick for me. But it really needs to be a top 25 because so many Dook players simply play like 10-year olds when things don't go their way. They kick, elbow, slap, push coaches, etc. Chrissy Collins will regret the way he ran out on our court in the last game and celebrated on our logo...I've never seen a secretary do that before.

Re: Episode 16: The Hate Before the Storm

As a fellow Carolina grad, and longtime Duke hater, I have to vehemently disagree with Zeke's list of most hated Dukies. I know this guy is right on the cusp of the 20 year limit, but any list of most hated has to start with Christian Laettner. He is the godfather of all hate-able Duke players. Without him, we would not have hated Chrissy Collins, Wojo, Reddick, etc. with as much vitriol. He was the tone setter for the entire Coach K era. I also, would have included the snarling, chest thumping, screaming hydra of Roshon Mcleod, Chris Carrawell, and Dahntay Jones. In the scrubby white guy to hate division, I would like to recommend Taymon Domzalski. I dare you to find many more annoying Durhamites than him.

Go HEELS!

Re: An Entreaty to All Those Who Have Ever, are Now, or Think They Might be Tempted in the Future to Blame a Loss on the Officiating : Please Shut the F*#@ Up

The NCSU foul issues were not isolated to the Dook game, they have foul issues because they have no depth and these starters play the whole game. Until they learn to play matador defense without fouling like K. Marshall, I'd expect it to continue.

Re: An Entreaty to All Those Who Have Ever, are Now, or Think They Might be Tempted in the Future to Blame a Loss on the Officiating : Please Shut the F*#@ Up

Equating the Dook/NCSU game and the Dook/UNC game is comparing apples and oranges. Sure the refs in the UNC/Dook game blew two calls that resulted directly in five Dook points, but UNC could have made one extra play, one extra free throw, one less turnover in the last 2:30 that would have changed the outcome.

But just imagine the ending if Curry had been rightfully called for a travel. UNC gets the ball up 7. The only way for the Heels to heal that wound is to win in Durham, and again in the ACC tournament.

Re: Episode 12: I Love Myself for Hating You

Last night's UNC-Duke game was a pretty good game to watch. But there were lots of mistakes by both teams. UNC played better and should have won by 10 points, but failed to execute and play defense down the stretch. I am not surprised the game came down to free throws.

But it keeps surprising me that Williams is so bad in close games and at the end of games. It proves that he is really just a recruiter.

UNC needs to reconsider their end of game strategies and end of game personel usage. Williams has always struggled with understanding and exploiting mis-matches. This was very evident last night. UNC needs to try to get the ball to their two best players - Harrison Barnes and Tyler Zeller - in the final 3 minutes of any close game. But they need to understand who is guarding them and THUS how to utilize them. In the case of last night, Plumlee was guarding Barnes. Thus, putting Barnes in space or the open floor makes sense -- and a 4 low strategy (Barnes at the top with the ball four on the baseline) would have worked well. Plumlee would have had no chance in space. Barnes should have been briging the ball up the floor to tire out Plumlee. Instead, UNC tried the same high post entry pass they had been using all game -- this time the pass was intercepted by Plumlee. Barnes is faster than Plumlee, why are you trying to have him post up? Heck at least do an L cut to get open. Plus, Barnes is your best free throw shooter.

BTW - for how good of a passer, Marchall is horrible at passing into the post - he fails to realize when a bounce pass, lob pass, or wrap pass is neccessary. Maybe it is because he fails to setup his defender or the post defending with his eyes or movements and make it an easier pass. It is always very obvious when and how he is trying to pass into the post.

When you thought I was done, I have more critcizing to do:
Against most teams, since they are void a big man, Tyler Zeller should be getting the ball 30% of the trips down the floor. Even if he does not shoot it, you are stretching the defense and creating cutting lanes and 3 point shoots for the rest of the team. UNC is actualy improving on their use of cutting in the past year...it is nice to see.

Also, if UNC insists on using their horrible motion offense and getting Barnes the ball at the wing, then they need to clear out once he gets it. Everytime Barnes caught the ball at the wing they had Zeller in the post and Marshall running to the corner. They need to isolate Barnes on the wing and allow him to drive with either hand to the basket. This provides expentially more
options for Barnes (pull up J, shoot over a smaller player, drive past a slower player, drive and dish, etc). This will stretch the defense. I am not syaing run this everytime, I am just saying UNC needs to get easier buckets with the talent they have. UNC has won with the out of control point gaurd pushing the ball down the floor on every possession and crashing the boards with big men. Williams tries running the same offense with every team he has and against every team he plays. With his athletes and personel, he needs to switch to a more pro-style offense to create mis-matches, space, and isolations. Some suggestions are -- screen and roll with corner isolation, power isolation to the post, strong isolation to the wing, Iverson screens for Barnes, high low option for zeller, henson, and barnes - zeller high and barnes low with henson as screen and pop).

Re: So, What’s Wrong with Duke?

I agree that he has stepped it up of late. The reality is, however, that he's averaging 20 minutes a game in ACC play and has yet to play 30 minutes in an ACC game. If we are going to have an on-court leader that guy actually needs to be on the court. I don't know if I see that happening with Miles

Re: So, What’s Wrong with Duke?

Obviously can't disagree with most of what you've said, but I do want to point out that one upper classmen has the chance to fill our leadership gap: Miles. He gives consistent effort and is much closer to giving consistent production than ever before. His continued emergence does not help our late game/crunch time problem though - which is still the biggest reason this team currently looks primed for an early March exit.

Re: http://www.bluevsblue.com/post/13454186229

You guys rock.
